Emulation wise, AMD gets trampled by a herd of Dolphin shaped buffalo.
Power consumption wise...

But in multithreaded apps, they do indeed have decent performance, and you CAN overclock the FX 6300 and FX 4300, which are at price points where intel processors are ALL locked, so there's the possibility for moar performance.

But then...
The power consumption.

MY GOD.
THE POWER CONSUMPTION.

So yeah, none of that.

Im out of this discussion, he refuses to get, what i want to say Rolleyes

Yes, the negative point in the new AMD processors is indeed the TDP.
Where AMD perform like a truck and using like 300~400 Watts, Intel just overruns it with even more power with less Watts (around 100~125Watt).
Thats a shame and one of the reasons, why i changed from FX 8150 to Core i5 Undecided

Saying something over and over doesn't make it any more true. I could say apples float in air, and if you let one of them go outside they'll float up into the upper stratosphere, but that doesn't make it right.

About the price point thing, saying a $100 Intel CPU beats a $100 AMD CPU is arguably not the full picture, as a $100 Intel CPU will easily beat a $150 AMD CPU, and a $200 Intel CPU would beat a $300 AMD CPU, in the event that they made one at that price-point (which they don't, as it would effectively just be a factory overclocked $200 AMD CPU).

Finally, I get the impression that most of the users of this emulator (at least most of those who use the forum) have a functioning Wii/GameCube, myself included. However, they use this emulator instead. When gamers are used to 1080p + antialiasing, if they already have a half decent PC, it makes a lot of sense to play their Wii/GC games on their PC, especially if they're already sat at it wit hit turned on, whereas they'd have to go through at least some minor effort to set up their Wii with the game they want to play.

as i said before, it would be pretty much stupid (sorry for that one), when you buy a PC ONLY to play dolphin on it.
Would be like buying a 50" TV and connect a Atari 2600 on it and play Pacman or Space Invaders.

The main reason, why i started to say "stay away from AMD is bullshit", is because of this reason: -> Everyone do stuff other than using dolphin on his computer

The statement "Sure, but we are the dolphin forum" is TOTALY valid and i UNDERSTAND why everyone suggest Intel.
Intel IS faster, even the i3 is faster. But saying, that a 100$ Intel CPU can out perform a AMD cpu in any way, is just false.
Try beating the 6 core CPU with Intels dual core CPU, which you can buy for maybe 100$ (NOT SPEAKING OF DOLPHIN!!!!!!!)

And yes i have a Wii too, but maybe its just me who says, that he likes playing on its Wii rather than on the PC.
So lets stop this, i dont care if you now show me some CPU´s which can out perform a AMD CPU, just keep it close and stop it. Seriously.

Sorry to jack your thread but I dont think this question needed its own topic.

Is my hardware good enough to run dolphin at full speed? I cant get it to stay at 100%. Im trying to play No More Heroes and Metroid Prime Trilogy.

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Processor/CPU: AMD A6-3500 APU with Radeon HD Graphics 2.10 GHz
Video Card/GPU: Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT
Memory/RAM: 4.00 gb
Dolphin Revision: 3.5-381

No. Your CPU is too weak for these games

Sorry, but a 100$ Intel CPU will tie/beat/slaughter an equivalently priced AMD chip in any application, unless is was written specifically to detect the CPU manufacturer, and only use every other clock cycle on Intel hardware. It's a shame, but a fact that AMD can't compete performance/$ wise in any applications. It just happens that Dolphin especially needs what AMD don't put in their chips (ie single threaded performance), so the difference is very obvious when using dolphin.

To be entirely fair, AMD's FX 6300 is a decent value if you forget the following things:

1: Most apps rely on good single threaded performance, so Intel's I3 will beat the FX 6300 in this regard. However, if you find an app that uses five or more threads, the 6300 wins most of the time. If you bring an I5 into the equation, well...

2. The power consumption of the 6300 is almost DOUBLE that of the I3 3225, despite the fact that the FX 6300 doesn't have an IGPU and this is at STOCK settings. While it is true that you could get better performance with overclocking, the power consumption and heat...

Other than that, yeah AMD's perfect for Dolphin.

Please, please tell me more, its so interessting... oh wait, whats this Huh Huh Huh

A Core i3 (worth around 100$) just lost to AMD´s low budged CPU, worth 70$?? Hehe

See any Core 13 there? No? Well guess what, it as too slow

Even the FX 8150 overruns a CPU worth 40$ more than the FX itself, but it sure is somewhat worse, because it is AMD
