I recently downloaded dolphin v3.5-141 and everytime I die or try to load a new emulator, the screen stays black and does not load. Would this be a problem with the rom or with dolphin? If it helps the game I'm using is Viewtiful Joe for the gamecube.

You can't depend on save states. Had you just used the normal in-game saves, chances are good that this wouldn't be an issue.

I just started the game. When I beat the first level, I go through a door that leads to the level 2 but when I enter the door, the screen stays black. The same thing happens when I die, the screen just stays black. I tested to make sure there wasn't anything wrong with a save state by beginning a new game and killing myself and the same thing happens.

Are you using any cheats? If so, disable them and see what happens. Also you may need to rerip the iso due to a bad dump. Have you checked the official thread for the game you are playing? Many times you can find useful tips.

Not using cheats and using the search feature I found that some people are having similar problems with the game so I guess it's a game I can't play?

Actually this game should work just fine.

You're gonna try something: in Config/General set Framelimit to "Audio". Or preferably use Dolphin 3.0 (or even something older Tongue ), set Framelimit to "Off" or "Auto" and enable "Audio Throttle" (in DSP settings)
