Yes, yes, it uses multiple threads, but "single-threaded performance" matters to Dolphin because if the most demanding thread can't run fast enough, the other threads have to slow down. This "lightly-threaded" thing makes sense now that you've explained it, though. (Still applies better to the app's description, though, since nobody really benchmarks two-thread performance on quad-cores.)

And don't ask me to cool down, I'm Hitler!

For both of you... dolphin uses 2 cores for the cpu, gpu, and 3 if LLE audio is used. As far as threads are concerned. 1 for cpu, 1 for gpu, and 1 for everything else(gui, audio, save files, loading) I think in total 4 threads are used at most, not honestly sure, it's been awhile since I read the topic about threads in dolphin, but as far as threads that affect performance goes, you have cpu, gpu, and audio with cpu being the one that affects performance the most. Amd processors are good processors on multi threaded applications, but on 4 core or above threaded. Intel cpus win hands down on single or double threaded or core applications because of their architecture. Anyways, expect good performance in dolphin, but don't expect great performance. That's why everyone here recommends an i5 3570k at 4.2ghz.

SMG + LLE audio require i5 3570k @ 4.2GHz or equivalent CPU
Quote:it also requires DSP LLE and EFB to RAM.
LLE , yes
EFB copies to Ram . no
Quote:Overclocking can alleviate or in some cases ive seen mostly fix this problem
Not possible with his CPU , not even close unless he do suicide OC with LN2 cooling . Check Dolphin Benchmark here
Mostly fix = not full speed everywhere, but in some spots full speed. My 1055T (at about 3.7 GHz) runs SMG at around 80-90 average (without LLE of course) and in smaller areas 100%. He will have to sacrifice LLE. Sorry I wasnt specific enough on that matter. Getting up to around 4.3GHz to 4.6GHz (which is pretty easy on water, or really good air) should make the game bareable with HLE and possibly quite enjoyable. He will never get 100% speeds 100% of the time, I agree. He will have to run with no sound for the ending ,which is the only problem (HLE bug). Oh, and thanks for the benchmark data, been looking for it :3

Sorry for the Confusion.

Dolphin can use plenty of threads (for example, I just launched Animal Crossing and Activity Monitor tells me Dolphin's using 11 threads), it's just that only two or three of them actually use enough CPU to matter. Thread counts are silly shit.

It's ok . Please join the benchmark if you have time to spare

Yeah , Your Phenom II X6 has almost the same performance as FX 8350 in Dolphin (clock for clock)
Base on benchmark data , Phenom II x6 1100T @ 3.8GHz 's results are just 1-2FPS slower than FX 8350 @ 4.0GHz 's result

Yep, it is around the same as vishera, but vishera has a bit more overclocking headroom than my CPU (which is basically a 1055T acting like a 1100T >Smile ). He should have some good results.OP will need good cooling to run dolphin and overclock no matter what hardware he has for the most part. I wonder if Zelda Ucode will ever be developed into the new HLE branch. Would make things easier for everyone (including people who use Intel CPUs). Any idea if Delroth is or will be working on that, if its possible?

In reality, I dont know exactly how far OP will be able to OC the CPU, since every CPU is different lol.

Overall , both i5 3570k and FX 8350 have downside
If you get I5 3570k , you'll be able to squeeze Dolphin much more (i5 2500k @ 3.3GHz ~ FX 8350 @ 4.5GHz . i5 2500k is slower than i5 3570k . You can push i5 3570k to 4.5GHz safely) . About multi-threaded performance , 4 cores 4 threads vs 8 cores 8 threads , there is no way in hell i5 3570k could win

If the @OP chose the FX 8350 in the first place , I could advise him to get i5 3570k instead .
Spoiler: (Show Spoiler)
We still lack FX 6300 benchmark result , I think we will need him to cover that lol
Btw , don't get FX 6300 , get the faster FX-6350 instead (available on newegg now)

OH MAN I FORGOT ABOUT THAT! Yes, OP, Get this instead lol!

Admin, the scores SHOULD (but not entirely, absolutely sure yet) mostly scale to a 8350 in Dolphin, since they run on the same architecture, just lower clockspeeds and less cores.

Or just get a 3570K and get the best out of Dolphin and gaming.

Benchmarks say otherwise. In the benchmarks, even in server workloads, the prime of multithreading, the bulldozers couldn't surpass the Intel chips. It's been refined since then, but Intel has advanced as well. Honestly, from the benchmarks I can think of no scenario where the AMD processors are better. Well, minus the one where the user has an AMD motherboard already and doesn't want to spend $300.

Ive seen High end AMD CPU's (like 8350, not server grade chips), perform the same and sometimes better in some workloads (with intel beating it in others). The multithreading performance inside of Piledriver CPUs is excellent. I will admit, however, that the power consumption is a bit ridiculous, especially when OC'ed. People who are on the AMD platform only have to pay around $170 for a good ol' 8320, and can overclock it practically just as much as the 8350. Plus, thats still over $100 less than the Intel 8 threaded CPU competition. I would say the trade offs are worth it if your in it for Multi-threaded applications. But for dolphin, if you can, just go for Intel right now lol. I wonder how well AMD can up the IPC in Steamroller.... Guess we'll wait and see.

Im just going to stop, however, since this is starting to get a bit off topic. XD Im starting to get into one of those rants again...
