Fullscreen Exit Changes to Windowed Mode

I find it kind of annoying how whenever I'm playing a game, and want to exit, I use the "Esc" key to stop the emulation, but it always changes the game to Windowed mode from Fullscreen which I don't want to happen. Is there any way to prevent this from happening?
