Hello!

I am using 4.0 build 4980 (the latest at the time of this post) and no matter what game I play, the window always starts full screen and 2 or 3 seconds in, goes to windowed mode. I remember reading about a similar issue a few weeks back but cant seem to find the fix/workaround. Anyone have any words of wisdom?

This happens to me also when I go straight into launching a game. You have to open graphics options and then close it before you start a game to stay fullscreen.

Thanks for that drhycodan! Is there a more elegant solution?

Can you try if this behavior started on 4.0-4935 and does not happen in 4.0-4931?

Dolphin might stuggle to get into exclusve fullscreen mode, and fall back to windowed mode because of it. And before, it might have been falling back to borderless fullscreen. Borderless fullscreen is slower on some systems, and i think vsnc doesn't work at all with it. This is just a theory for now.

So are we saying this is a bug, config issue or a hardware issue on my end?

*EDIT*

I am also setting up an emulation machine for my friend and she doesnt know much about technology. Is there a way to programmatically do this? I am no stranger to code but am not even sure if it is possible. Thoughts?

I know I am double posting but I just found out that the issue does not exist with OpenGL. It only happens when I use Direct3D

I posted earlier today about an issue I was having https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-all-games-aspect-ratio-issues-in-fs...

In my attempts to fix it I cleared all my dolphin files and started from a fresh CLEAN install of dolphin. I now am having the exact problem you are having. My other problem was more than likely related. I never delete my dolphin files unless I absolutely HAVE to so I just copy the new zip right into the same folder every time I update. Something was prolly still causing my dolphin to fallback to the other mode like the old behavior. What possibly could be keeping D3D from exclusive mode. Most games for PC use this type of full-screen and those all work perfectly and I have not had a similar issue with anything.

In case it matters I am using a radeon HD 7770 with catalyst 14.12 Omega, Windows 7 UltimateX64.

Is this a new thing? I can open a new issue if it is but do not want to duplicate.

with 4.0 4931, it enters borderless fullscreen if you don't open up graphics options first. You still have to do the same thing to get exclusive fullscreen.
