Hello

I've been trying to enable FrameSkip to see if it would help as most of the games I've been playing are almost full speed.

Fire Emblem runs at 48 - 60 fps for example with underclock

Already using OpenGles 3.2

I adding this setting under [core]

FrameSkip = 1

I don't think the setting is being accepted , has it been moved or is it not working anymore.

Let me know if anyone has any ideas as slot of games are just almost full speed now.

Thanks all

If I remember correctly, the developers removed the frameskip function sometime ago. It was because the function wasn't working correctly, I think.

It's a shame if it was removed , it seemed to take a lot of stress off the CPU and was definitely helpful.

If it was removed then I imagine there was a good reason for it.

It was not definitely helpful, it didn't work lmao.

You probably fell under the wonderful placebo effect. Many games just fucked up rendering with blank frames on the skipped frames. Some would render garbage. Many did absolutely nothing at all. A small handful of games actually did something useful with frameskip, but, very small handful.

Because of how Dolphin works and generally not giving a fuck about timings, frameskip is just not really useful because it's broken trash.

Yeah, we've found a by far better speed hack: Just underclock the emulated CPU/GPU and let the game handle the dropped frames.

I wish the frameskip is still supported in Dolphin Emulator by Developers.

As the previous posts mentioned, frameskipping in Dolphin was largely broken. Additionally, it didn't work the same way frameskipping works for emulators of older 2D gaming consoles, so it did little to actually improve performance. It really was functionally useless for the most part, with only a few edge cases where it was somewhat beneficial.

For future reference, we have rules against necroposting for threads older than 6 months. If you have any questions about frameskipping or anything else related to it, we recommend making a new thread to discuss it. Newer threads are more visible on the forums and tend to get answered faster.
