I have only an NVIDIA 8600 GS.
I can play SSBM in fullspeed, Crazy Taxi in fullspeed, Zelda winwaker in 50-100% Speed, and Zelda TP (Gamecube) in 46-100%. My drivers are all updated. I have Windows XP Professional 32-Bit. 08-10-2009, 10:05 PM
Vista 64-bit
Nvidia 9800 GT Things are the same for me, except SSBB , first: the intro is very sloooooow... and then the in-game menu is very slow too >.< But if I restart dolphin 3-4 times it'll get it's own speed back (280 FPS) if i disable other audio, else it's 50 :p 08-13-2009, 02:10 AM
Certain things have gotten better, others have gotten worse... Metroid Prime 3 for example now seems to have a limit on it... I can't get anymore than 30 fps, and if I use frame skipping it just scales down accordingly.. not sure why this is... also metroid primes in general have gotten worse since around rev 2500.
But Zeldas on the other hand have only gotten better.... Here's my setup: Core i7 920 @ 3.2 Ghz Gigabyte UD3R Motherboard 3GB DDR3 @ 1600Mhz 8-8-8-24 Nvidia Geforce GTX260 2x 250GB SATAII Seagate 7200RPM Drives in a RAID-0 Audigy X-Fi XtremeGamer 08-14-2009, 06:33 AM

Can't exactly remember what revision broke the performance for video plugins. But yeah, I'm getting the same crap too. AA and Vsync especially slow down Dolphin (games themselves seem a little slower than usual too - even without all those high settings and even in window mode), while the older DirectX plugin can run the games with high settings at full speed (for me, but for most people, better). Of course, I know how old the DirectX plugin can be - but it goes to show you one thing, it doesn't seem to be a Core problem (I was running the DirectX plugin on R3626 x64 - the last revision that can work with the old Dx9 plugin) - but the problem seems to reside in the plugin itself. But anyway, Here are my specs:
Windows 7 x64 7600 4GB Ram DDR2 NVidia GeForce 9800 GTX (over clocked to 780/2000/2400 or 1200 I forget how it goes - driver version 190.38) Intel C2D Wolfdale 8400 3.00GHZ (Clocked to 3.80GHZ) XFX nForce 680i lt sli My Dolphin version at the moment is R3971 x64. It's weird, because I do remember a time when the OpenGL wasn't acting like this - and it WAS better to use than the DirectX plugin in many ways. But that was a little over a year a go, and afaik, this problem might've occured when we hit r3000. Could be wrong though, my memory's a little fuzzy. 08-14-2009, 10:39 AM
So I've downloaded the latest bin release to check things out. Tried it with Wind Waker. Works alright, went into config, enabled dual core and all of a sudden it runs really slow, like 4 fps. What the heck? Dual Core always speed up everything before but now it makes it unplayable, what gives?

Bah, you know what, I take that back.
I believe the issue has to do with drivers. I went back to the oldest possible revision that had AA and Vsync in the OpenGL plugin that I could find (R2645 - and what do you know, it runs horribly. I think it's even WORSE too. Good grief. The only way to test for sure, is to install the restricted drivers for Ubuntu (the ones that say 180 as their driver number) and run the latest revision of Dolphin with Vsync and AA and all that jazz. It should run better, if the theory's correct. I could've done this had I not installed the latest 190 series drivers as soon as I reinstalled my Ubuntu partition. But at least I'm getting closer to a possible reason. And even if I'm not close, at least I'm getting somewhere. 08-15-2009, 02:47 PM
This topic has become pretty old now. This was made several revisions back when they were cutting back performance to figure out sound. With so many advances with the framelimiter, watchdog etc etc we either need to redo the topic, get it off the sticky, or kill it.

I'm now getting good speeds, not sure about anyone else, should this thread exist now? Need someone else to confirm.

well, when i compare 3404 with 4000+, i see big drops in performance with some games.
for example , WW runs a lot worse. while i was able to play it without any (speed-)problem in 3404, i must use frameskip now as its unplayable without. (fps dropped around 30%) i dont consider this a huge problem as we can compensate for that easy with frameskip nowadays, but still it's definatly there. on the other hand, some games run a lot better, for example double dash. but i think we have to live with those changes as dolphin is in development. |
