We could just drop the entire problem as well as not having to ship and maintain all of ffmpeg.

Let the tools that are dedicated to this stuff do the job.

Also nope. Our internal dumping code knows about the emulated timing, the audio - video synchronization, the internal resolution, ... Reducing all of this to the output accuracy of our backends is a bad idea.

Yeah, please let us keep framedumping. I need it, even if I constantly threaten to stop making videos because it's limitations.

Helios' love for destroying features has finally gone out of control /s

On a serious note, although it's already been said, I also would be very unhappy if framedumping were removed altogether for the reasons already mentioned--namely that dumping frames gives output with 0 lag compared to console output, while using FRAPS/OBS/etc. is at the mercy of the PC for not lagging.

Deep down, Helios just really wants someone to step up and improve frame dumping. What better way to motivate others than by suggesting the feature could be removed? Tongue

No, I just don't really think that Dolphin does a particularly good job of frame dumping on our biggest platform by far and since nobody wants to fix it, best leave it to the tools that can do the job better.

However, degasus and JosJuice make very good points and the feature should probably stay, even if it sucks.

I was going to post a topic about returning video dumping codec options but i see someone had done that already. (obviously)

i would be very upset if the frame dumping option was removed completely... using OBS or fraps would show the lag. unless there was a way to sync the emulator with obs so lag wouldn't show then maybe it would work.  yeah it sucks but it didn't used to suck before the changes were made a few years back.  it wasn't perfect (since video de syncs from the audio) but it worked better than the current setup and the de sync could be corrected in a video editor. i guess buying a 4k capture device would work but that unnecessary money spent...

so what did Microsoft change to make frame dumping impossible to get custom codecs back?  desmume has a video dumper and it has custom codecs that work fine in windows 10.

the video dumping over haul that was done a few years was a step backwards tbh.  2 video quality, 1080p is slow at dumping (with lossless) even with a fast computer mp4 with a compression that looks like a 720p youtube video quality and an unusable lossless video codec that isnt compatible with much wont even dump 4k frames.  so im stuck using a dated build of dolphin to dump custom frames... and im not sure if this is just my computer but dumping doesn't even work any more. couldn't the old frame dumping code be re implemented till someone can come up with a proper fix or overhaul?

Sorry if i sound ticked but Ive been patently waiting for a fix for years now.  but i guess know one give a crap about internal frame dumping anymore.

Personally i find it very useful.

I guess I might as well say that preventing the audio from being desynced with the video was not very hard either. I would pick the "Dump Frames" option first, then "Dump Audio" as the codec selection window appeared. Then, when I got the footage I wanted, I would uncheck Dump Audio first, then combine audio and video in VirtualDub.

On another note, Ut Video Codec has recently been updated and it seems to include a bunch of new codec options focused on speed. I haven't tested them yet, but maybe they could be an answer to the slow speed problem.

Desmume's .avis also unfortunately corrupt after they pass 4 GB in size, so it's a bit hard getting lag-less footage at high internal resolution options they have in the latest builds lmao

well personally i use lagarith lossless codec that has worked very well for me over the years. even in 4k i could get around 5 to 10 percent on a 6 core intel cpu.

anyways i hope some one improves the video dumping. its really needs it. badly...

Please don't say "us" when you only mean yourself.
