Four gamecube controllers?

Hi. While trying to play Brawl with my friends, I noticed that I could not connect 4 gamecube controllers at the same time for whatever reason. The first two are fine, but each controller I connect after that will connect, but then the last controller connected will disconnect. Example: I hook up controller 1 and 2, then controller 3 connects but controller 2 disconnects. If I were to hook up controller 4, it would also connect but then controller 1 were to connect. Reconnecting controller 1 or 2 would then take away 3 or 4, etc.

Am I doing something wrong or is this just dolphin? All controllers have been tested to work in all ports and are confirmed to all be working by themselves, just not four at the same time. I am using the Mayflash GC controller adapter as seen here http://www.amazon.com/GC-Controller-Adapter-PC/dp/B0089NVTDM/ref=pd_cp_vg_0 There are two of them in two different USB ports. I would really appreciate some help :o

I don't use any, you use the mayflash adaptor, which afaik are notorious for these type of things
