1. What would be the best version to download atm for a noobie? There are so many different ones. Help would be appreciated.

2. How does the rom thing work? I don't need to know where to get roms, but I do have a question. A lot of people make backups that are playable on the Wii and then share them online. Do these backups also work with Dolphin and are roms the same thing? Also - does it matter who has made the backup or do they all work?

3. How to the controls work? I know that you can get a Wii controller thru Bluetooth, but before I go buying that bluetooth dongle I want to try it out with my gamepad / m&k. Like are the buttons / actions specially remapped for each game by someone? For example if some game has a action that needs to be done with motion. Can I put that specific action / motion onto a button? How do I do that?

4. I should have no problems running dolphin with this righ, yes?

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550
Asus P5Q PRO
ATI ASUTEK 4870 1GB
x4: A-DATA 1GB DDRII 800

Thanks.

1. The best versions, are always the SVN releases. Bare in mind, some game work better on certain revisions, so you may end up with 3-4 different dolphin versions.

2. You can make a copy of an original Wii game, which you'd create a thing called a ISO. Bare in mind, you need a certain drive to read Wii games.

3. Controls are easyish, and can be played with a Keyboard & Mouse or a controller. You can, also like you said, get a bluetooth dongle and use a Wiimote, but you may need to get a sensor bar for certain games.

4. You should have no problem, but it's not the CPU, but the speed it's running. To get the best out of Dolphin, you need to have around 3.0GHz +

1. Yeah, but which one of those? There are also many different revisions. Should I get the one with the biggest number (aka newest one). I downloaded r6117 atm figuring it will be more stable than the newer ones. Should I still get the other ones? Also, I downloaded it from here: http://www.xtemu.com/forum/files/go/037aea8cad4b0c3016d999123c62d161/dolphin-x86x64-svn-revision-6117 But there are also different versions of the same revision. Currently I have the first (64-bit) one.

2. So ISO's that people use to play on the Wii (aka pirated games I guess) also work with Dolphin?

3. I tried Super Paper Mario or whatever with my Dolphin. It left me confused. Originally it was mouse and keyboard but I prefer a controller so I hooked up my Rumblepad 2. Can I have the controller to read a gamecube controller (not sure if the game actually supports it). I also tried mapping buttons on the controller and for most part it worked. Except the motion. I can also use the mouse to point at the screen, but I'm not sure how I am going to do the other motions with it.

That is not correct. It is the type of CPU, not the speed. You do need a fast CPU, but a 3.0GHz Celeron is not going to out-perform my 2.4GHz Athlon 64. The New i3, i5 and i7's seem to be your best bet, but your Q9550 should be fine.
Asus Laptop: K53TA
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-Bit - SP1
CPU: AMD Llano A6-3400M, Quad-Core, 1.4GHz-2.6GHz (Overclocked)
GPU: AMD Radeon HD6650M, 1GB GDDR3 (Catalyst 13.1)
RAM: Samsung 4GB DDR3-1333

true, but so many people post this I just quit replying, it's meaningless. The 'megahertz' myth still lives on strong.

Maybe people should try a p3 or celeron clocked at 7ghz on ln2 and still wonder why it plays games slow on dolphin.

$5 says the new amd bulldozer and i7 2xxx series will run games on dolphin at full speed even below 2.4ghz frequencies,
in fact from the videos I've seen, even a i7 920 runs everything at stock speeds full frames, only mario galaxy 1/2 hangs at slightly below max

I can only speak for i7 950 but even then, when I underclocked it in bios to 2.52ghz there wasn't really any speed difference, everything ran at the same speed as it did before (full)
with the sole exception of smg

Well, you've got to at least correct them when they're wrong if you happen to see it, but I do agree that it gets bothersome to have to keep following people around on the forum explaining these things to them all the time. If you're going to give advice like so many people here do, I'd hope that they at least know what they're talking about since people do tend to think that anyone who responds to their thread knows what they're talking about.
