Okay, I'll go through the reasons.

1: A lot of the options will outright break your games. Huge performance regressions, games won't load. The reason the INI's store these default values for only very advanced users to touch is because it's very easy to break something and not know what you did.

2: A lot of the features have nothing to do with what users would want.

3: Being able to change the default settings easily would mean that you'd have nothing to fallback on if you break everything.

Now, part of this is that Dolphin's setting system is not perfect. In fact, it's pretty limited considering what it's trying to do. There could be a better system out there to implement, but it's definitely not to the point where Dolphin should have users able to edit all of those settings. And exposing a lot of them to the GUI would be a bad idea even if something like that was implemented.

Actually, that reminds me of a good idea. Maybe lock/gray or somehow mark INI-set options, so the standard configuration is replaced by the INI setting in the GUI, but it is marked so it does not later get saved back to disk and is discarded when the game stops. It could potentially add complexity to the load/save?

Maybe I didn't make it clear enough.
What I meant is a way to store and load settings like it is possible with a the controller configuration.
One could always fallback to the default, but it would be also possible to save settings you've made for a certain game in a separate file that you can load or which could get automatically loaded when you start the game you made the settings for (DSP as well as Graphic settings).
This way users cannot crash their dolphin as they can always reload the default, but they could also save settings for different games.

I hope this is clearer Smile

Sorry for interrupting your guys conversation, but I had a small (aesthetic) idea which shouldn't be too hard to do.
I would like to see that Dolphin tracks how long you have played the games in your library. Just like in Steam, it shows you how much hour you have played.
Maybe it could show you how much hours you've played next to the game file size?

It's not something terribly useful but I thought it would be nice.

This is already possible, see https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-unofficial-howto-using-gameini-settings-per-game

I already discovered this (as you can see from my last post Smile ), but adding it to the GUI would be awesome + the possibility to load certain settings for specific games while starting them.

@PureTryOut: Most of the games provide a measurement when you simply save ingame.

EDIT: Please devs, do not let this simple but awesome feature slip through ^^

Id say the ability to set dolphin's actual emulation and hack settings from prefrences of the rom would be nice (not all options are there eg texture from ram and so forth)..
Ability to use custom game pad settings per game instead of global.. (some games actually work better with diffrent configs with diffrent controllers.)

Note i tihnk someone else requested these to lol..

Ability for sound emulation to actually properly work on a seperate thread without hoseing all of dolphin would be nice Tongue..
Local recording of games and or twitch tv intrigration would be kinda handy Tongue... I had more but im to tired to think.

I second this.

This along with my previously-suggested customizable controls for a real wiimote would be absolutely awesome.
