Heart

It is nice to know that a feature I asked about a while ago found its way into the emu.

Big Grin

I have three more requests this time. The first being the ability to compress WADs in the familiar .GCZ format. The second request I would like to make is for the ability to have Dolphin be associated with .GCZ - in a way that they get a custom icon and the ability to be launched in Dolphin via a double click. Lastly (I know sound is a low priority, but so was Netplay) it would be nice if Dolphin could 'Pass-through' Dolby Digital sound (when present - such as with Link's Crossbow Training) via SPDIF.

The last one being a nice option for users who have on board audio linked up to a decoder digitally.

why not just set your output to be SPDIF before running Dolphin Tongue

Because then it would be passed as 2 channel PCM. What I was referring to would pass the already encoded tracks 'as is' directly to a Dolby ready receiver. This would greatly benefit people who have crappy 5.1+ onboard audio (since SPDIF is the norm now) connected to receivers.

Now before you ask; who would have crappy onboard connected to a receiver? I will say that I know a handful of people who have HTPCs capable of running Dolphin connected to audio systems digitally. This way the crappy onboard DAC is not so much an issue since they are mostly used for movie playback that already have Dolby Digital / DTS sound.

Passthrough raw dolby->SPDIF isn't really possible. Our HLE doesn't support the Dolby stuff, and if the LLE worked, it would downmix to 2 channels before the rest of dolphin gets to access the resulting signal.

I mean this is a good idea as this issue is present in a lot of games... but why not just want this issue solved? I'd say that is a major issue for Dolphin to overcome that will make many games currently close to perfect perfect and would be a huge step forward for this emulator.

But I don't know how it all works :X

what do you mean? judging from the patent documents and the spdif mod available on the web, it should be possible for dolphin to output it "raw".
As for number of channels, I have no idea.

hey,

i've got a question/feature request...
i read somewhere that the whole emulation part is more a strain on the cpu than it is on the gpu since converting the assembly from power pc to x86 takes time.
my questions is this, is it possible to create some sort of pre-processor that would first analyze the whole disc and then create a separate copy with all the needed modifications?

right now i get about 10 fps without sound, and even if it takes hours/days to pre-process every game. i wouldn't mind doing it once if i knew that the game would run faster afterwards.

What do you think? is it even possible? or am i missing how the emulation actually works?

thanks!
