Failed to initialize Video Backend! Linux Mint Debian Ed.

Hello,

I seem to be unable to run Dolphin correctly in Linux MINT debian edition (64).

I built r7673 from SVN, apparently correctly. I can start Dolphin, go into all the menus, but when I try to load na ISO, I get "Failed to initialize video backend".

Since I started it from the command line, I see "/home/juan/dolphin-emu-read-only/Source/Plugins/Plugin_VideoOGL/Src/GLUtil.cpp:476 N[Video]: glX-Version 1.4", which can also be seen from the log window in dolphin.

I have an XP install in the very same machine, and this same ISO loads fine in Windows.

General specs are:

Core 2 Quad Q6600
8 Gb RAM
ASUS P5g41 series mobo
ATI HD 5570 2GB with ATI 11.4 drivers
Linux Mint Debian Edition 64 , rolling, updated.

Any idea of what may be going on?

Ok, for those asking for more info:

General specs are:

Core 2 Quad Q6600
8 Gb RAM
ASUS P5g41 series mobo
ATI HD 5570 2GB with RADEON propietary 11.4 drivers
Linux Mint Debian Edition 64 , rolling, updated.

I tried starting glxgears, and got this message: "glxgears
Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual"
Following this lead
I found out that apparently Mesa is broken
so, I guesss I'll wait, and periodically check after updates to see if Mesa is fixed again.

Oh BTW, I checked in Synaptic and found that fglrx-glx is not installed. I selected install, and Synaptic went all hysterical, telling me it had to uninstall something like 70 packages! Things like compiz, brasero, fspot, a bazillion gnome components, tons of kde stuff, VLC, virtualbox...

If not even glxgears works for you, that's not a problem with Dolphin. Since the number of people who know something about linux is marginally low around here, you probably won't get any useful advice here on that topic unfortunately :/

I'm not sure how useful this will be, but in my experience ATI cards don't work properly in Linux. The drivers have been improving lately, but I have yet to see an ATI card that works perfectly. My E8400 Core2Duo and 9800GT run Dolphin faster in Debian 6/Ubuntu 10.04 x64 than in XP, but not as fast as in Win7 x64. There's only a difference of a few FPS though, so you're not really missing out on anything. Just go with Nvidia next time.

My GPU has been working perfectly with both radeon as well as fglrx for more than a year now. Go figure Tongue

I guess I'm just biased against ATI because I deal with a lot of old hardware. I volunteer at a place that installs Ubuntu on old computers and gives them away. I've spent many hours trying to get the right ATI drivers installed, and many of the older cards don't work at all or have no 3d acceleration with fglrx or open source drivers. The recent ones do work. That 5570 is listed as fully supported in Ubuntu. I hope you can get it working in Mint.

For what it's worth, could you post the output of the log window when running Dolphin?

I'm having the same problem with my system and I'm using an nVidia 7 Series card with the official drivers from nVidia.

Here's my specs:

Proc: AMD Athlon 64 3500+
Chipset: nVidia CK804
RAM: 512 DDR 333
GPU: Sparkle nVidia GeForce 7300GT PCIe 512 MB
OS: Ubuntu 11.04 Server minimal install w/ LXDE

All dependencies were installed and I can get Dolphin to open but when I try to open an ISO it give me the video backend error.
