I was poking around based on this thread and found something confusing. Anyone want to tell me the difference between:

This one

and

This one

(Besides price)?

The i5 with the k is unlocked (That means, you can overclock it as much as you can)

I'll go and post links soon, and everything would be updated. Big Grin

Understandable. Merely a suggestion, nothing more.

Quote:ok you are looking at the old i5, the new i5 is the same price and its better so >.>

get core i5-2500 (the 2500K version has unlocked multipliers so you can mega overclock it easily, it would be a much better value)

Then get a socket 1155 motherboard, if you want to overclock with the 2500k you need a P67 chipset motherboard, if not getting that one, you can get any 1155 motherboard really.

For graphics, id agree get the 5830, its a good value for the performance, and would not only allow 1080P for wii with ease, it should most any pc game on higher settings.

You rpsu is junk, diablotek is a cheapo brand, like the ones that explode lol... get a 500-600W corsair, antec, seasonic, silverstone, thermaltake, xfx, enermax, those kinds of psu brands are good.

with that your computer would be more epic, would probably make it cost about $100 more though.

100% agreed

Not sure I would go that high unless he's a pc gamer. But yes that video card is very weak, especially compared to the standards set by your other hardware.

Quote:Updated the first post.

Current thoughts:

CPU: Fine, unless you want to overclock. If you want to overclock then grab a 2500k and an aftermarket cooler.
Video card: Grossly underpowered. Go for at least a 6770.
Power supply: Although 500 watts is probably enough it's a good idea to future proof and grab a 600 watt just in case.
CD/DVD drive: Fine
Motherboard: Get a P67 from asus, not an H67
Case: Fine, cheap as hell and I personally would want something better but if you're on a budget it's fine.
Memory: Get at least DDR3 1600MHz, it only costs $5-10 more.
Hard drive: Get a black edition from western digital or a samsung spinpoint F3. I would especially recommend the spinpoint F3.

The forums are going wonky right now on the computer I'm using, which is a public computer. Anyways....Why not we get an Ivy Bridge pc and a WiiU while we're at it? I'm on a bit of a budget right now because I'm working my way towards getting the parts for the computer, and I want the computer to be around $500-$700 (around the price range of a cheap gaming laptop).

Question....Would I still be able to turbo boost with an H67 board with a 2500 (not k) Core i5? Also, why a spinpoint F3? I have no idea what kind of hard drive that is.

Easy enough.

GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161379

Total: $696

You should be able to find equivalent parts on amazon for similar prices. And this was a quick and dirty build without hunting for deals.
