Emulator skips and minor lag

I notice that when running Dolphin every once in a while the emulator would freeze for either half a second or about a minute. It is quite often this happen although the freezing for anything longer than 3 seconds is rare but with a fast game like the Super Smash Brother games (Melee and Brawl), this is a pretty big deal. I was thinking on one POSSIBLE fix is to run everything off of a SSD. The way I have my settings right now is I have 2 hdd. One is an ssd with the emulator and another is a mechanical drive with the actual ISO of the game.

Has anyone else ran into any other issues or have a possible solution?

UPDATE : I did end up installing a SSD and I notice it is performing MUCH better now. No lags so far after a few matches in both Mario Kart Wii and Melee. Perhaps a placebo effect but at this time I am going to leave as is.
