I just wondered, since we can emulate the Wii, why is it not possible to emulate the Xbox 360, PS3?

The Xbox 360 specs are
it has a IBM PowerPC-based CPU, its 3 cores
has a ATI radeon graphics card
512mb of memory

How in the world are we not able to emulate the Xbox 360 or PS3?
PC has the Intel i7 core processor, more cores then the Xbox 360.
PC has the Ati Radeon HD 6000 series, way more powerful then the xbox 360

Does the Processor do something special that regular pc processors cant do?

*sigh*

Xbox 360 and PS3 uses completely different architetures than PC... Writing an emulator to these needs a huge amount of power because every code written to XBox/PS3 would need to be decrypted, decompiled and then recompiled in a language that PCs can understando to, finally run the code of the game...

GC/Wii/PS2 that are somewhat weak consoles already need a lot of power to get fullspeed (and many games doesnt get 100% speed all the time) even on modern PCs, imagine now PS3/Xbox that are huge consoles in terms of power...

Could only Sony or Microsoft release a emulator if they wanted? Since they have all the documentation on how the processors work and video card for the Xbox 360/ps3?

or is not possible at all?

I would rather see an Accurate Dreamcast Emulator. every one i tried sucks, and all of them have ugly sound. it's very hard to find a decent Dreamcast with a good CD laser.

Why would they want to release an emulator? The best "emulators" for these systems will be the future Sony/MS systems if they consent to enable retrocompatibility this time Big Grin

Which has lead me to decide that MS already have an original XBox emulator, but will never release it, as they'll make no money from it, ever, but may lose a small amount.

Xbox1 was emulated, though not very well, on the 360 since day 1. It was probably the reason they bought Virtual PC.

Of course it's possible to emulate the xbox 360, and ps3. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that it would ever be possible to run them at >1-2 fps (let alone with current hardware!). If you're ok with that, there is nothing stopping you from writing an emulator for either system.
