Quote:Dolphin is not a substitute for a real wii. It only attemps to do what the wii does (play games designed for it) in it's own manner, which is not even nearly perfect.

I think most people such as myself can agree on that, I don't mind Dolphin for testing, but I prefer the real thing due to compatibility issues and other problems that come with emulation. Hopefully one day when Dolphin is near perfect, that may change, but it's much less of a headache right now to use the real thing. Wink

IDK about others, but in my country sharing is entirely legal. What actually configures piracy here is selling a backup copy you made yourself, what is, to the law's eyes, trying to make profit of something you didn't created (for example, the case of pirated DVD discs sold on the streets).

But there's no law talking about sharing in such manner here, really.

I'm aware that in the US there have been several court cases that have backed up an owner's right to make ONE backup of an entertainment product (CD/DVD, etc...) so long as they don't try to redistribute it for free or for money. Hell, most "legal" statements that come with the product are only the company's, could you imagine how many people would be sued for making a music CD (most companies view that as illegal yet the courts rule in the favor of whoever made the CD as long as they weren't distributing it).

I'm also not a fan of how pompously the TC is talking to people (I'm right. Get over it.), the End-User Agreement is overridden by federal and state laws. If companies wanted to make sure you couldn't they'd have you sign a legal document when you bought a game, however they know that it wouldn't matter as most legal systems in developed nations grant individuals some variation of what I've stated above.

No offence but the poster on this topic is some no name that didn't even provided proof. The fact is that if you own the game you have the right in the country I live in to make a backup and use it. Not sure what you have against emulation but I will not stand for you propergating disinformation. Understand the laws before you speak. As many have said here. If you own a hardcopy of the game you can make a backup and use it.

Quote:As said before, you're buying the right to play that copy. That's it. You're not buying unlimited rights to distribute, copy, and reproduce that product. You are not a publisher.

You can boot games even without ripping anything by playing the game through a disk drive such as LG8162b. Hence, you are not distributing, copying or reproducing the disk.

The most famous case in the US resulted in the judge ruling in favor of the DMCA because the ripping software circumvented Copyright Protection Measures. Considering you don't circumvent any measures by ripping a Wii/GC game (just plop it into the drive) you are completely protected under fair-use copyright laws in the United States. (Also, if you bring up that you need certain drives to do so, namely LG/Hitachi ones the illegality issue would fall mainly on them for selling products that allow you to rip games.)

This shit was also posted at Ngemu except under a different username, in both cases the op only had one post and never posted again.

I thinks it's either a troll or a new type of bot by media/game companies that searches forums for certain keywords that are even remotely related to copyright infringement, then posts such a thread.
