Earthworm Jim 2 for Genesis VC runs very slow

The game needs to have real XFB enabled or there's no picture at all.  But once it's enabled, the game runs super slow even though dolphin thinks it's running at 100% speed.  I have tried enabling progressive scan but that doesn't help either.  Dolphin 7593 or older runs this title just fine.
