I have a "hp CDDVDW SN-208DB SATA CdRom Device" for a dvd drive.
Since raw dump is not functional with that drive does anybody know of software that will allow me to legally dump wii discs without having to buy a new drive.

Thanks for all your help

Does your drive supports dual-layer DVDs?
Rig 1: Windows 10 Home | AMD A6-1450 @ 600/1000/1400 MHz | AMD Radeon HD Graphics 8250 | 4GB RAM | HP Pavilion TouchSmart 11.

Rig 2: Windows 10 Pro | Intel Core i7-2640M @ 780/2800/3500 MHz | Intel HD 3000 Mobile | 8GB RAM | Dell Latitude 6320.

That was a dumb thing to ask. Most Wii games are not dual layer, and 99% of DVD drives read dual layer discs anyway (commercial DVD movies are always dual layer).

@Nathan M.

The problem is that the vast VAST majority of DVD drives simply don't read gamecube or wii discs. This isn't by accident, the GCN and Wii discs have copy protection: they put information necessary to decrypt and use the disc outside of the disc data. Most DVD-drives won't read that , but some can be made to with a firmware exploit, which is where rawdump and friidump come from.

Interest in this kind of dumping was lost once homebrew was possible on the Wii. Very very few drives were ever capable of this trick and it was a huge hassle. With homebrew dumping so much easier, and the wii constantly adding more DRM that homebrew dumping immediately bypassed by nature, everyone moved to that. There has been no new information in this area in five years, so this thread has all of the information known on this topic - http://forums.dolphin-emu.org/showthread.php?tid=2900

Your best bet is to dump it with a wii and cleanrip.

in all honesty why not take that list that some one linked to and hit up thrift shops or mom n pop hardware stores that sell used components?

that's what I did, first hardware store I hit had a GDR-8161B, it came out of an e-machine so it looks kinda derped but for like $6 I could rip my own games and not have to worry about torturing my wii or bother with that evil D word

Thanks for the help.
I did not realize that not all drives could read the discs, thanks for explaining that for me.
Mods, you can close this thread, the question has been resolved.
