Hi,
a while ago, I posted a message on Reddit, asking about using a third-party PS4 controller with Dolphin on Linux (DS4 DSU).
The only answer I got was
Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but gyro controls on the ds3/ds4 in Linux are really hard to bind in games now due to a change in the driver as discussed here:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1088925/ubuntu-18-04-no-longer-adds-second-joystick-device-for-sony-dualshock3s-gyro-ac
Now, the discussion on Askubuntu is fairly old, and I was wondering whether or not the situation is still the same.
Is it still a hassle to get, say, a Dual Sense 4 gyros to work?
What about third-party controllers?
Furthermore, I read the Dolphin wiki about the DSU client and would appreciate if someone could be kind enough to clarify this part (sorry, English is my third language)
As of 5.0-11484 motion axles of Wii Remotes, DualShock 3/4, DualSense and Nintendo Switch controllers can be directly mapped in Dolphin through evdev input API, which generally provides better latency than DSU Clients and thus is generally preferred. Additionally, the following servers are available
Should I understand that I don't need to install any of the servers listed (ds4drv, linuxmotehook etc.) ?
I'm using Linux Zorin 16 Focal (with Kernel 5.13.0-28-generic) and Dolphin [HEAD] 5.0-15445.
I'll have to check again later but, as far as I know, evdev should already be part of the kernel.
I know that using a genuine Wiimote is probably the easiest/less difficult way to go but we got rid of them when our Wii broke a few years ago. And I'd much prefer to buy controllers I could also use with other systems / emulators.
I mean, we have less than 30 games to begin with and gyros are only useful for a handful of them, most notably Mario Kart.
Thanks,
Larry
