I had a problem with the game shake controls and couldn't find a reference to it anywhere, so I thought I might as well post it here if anyone else needs it:
Shaking the controller is a major part of this game. If you are using an emulated Wii controller, you probably bound a button to the shaking function.
What I did not know was that the game expects you to shake both the Wii controller AND the Nunchuk! Otherwise, the movement is too slow for some of the locations in the game (Beach 2-2, for instance).
So, my advice: Map both the Wii controller and the Nunchuk controller shaking function to the same button, and the game will go a lot smoother for you.
Hope this helps someone
