Title. Tilting the thing by 45 degrees makes the cursor disappear in any game I play. I must be pointed directly at the bar in order for the sensor to work. Mario Kart with just the Wiimote is impossible. I'm about 7 feet away from the bar. Is this normal?

If you're not pointing at the sensor bar, then yes, the cursor will not work. But Mario Kart Wii doesn't use the cursor during gameplay, so I'm not sure what the problem is with that...

7 feet away is also very close to the bar compared to what it wants. I tend to get my best results at 10+ feet.
