I also found this when updating to 10.14.4, so this is something which was broken on apple's end. Nothing I've tried yet has been able to work around the lack of rendering, I'm guessing it's a layer issue.. there's a bunch of hacky workarounds which other projects have had to implement as well. When I have time I'll try to find a fix, but for now, just use Vulkan I guess.

Can you check the Activity Monitor while running a game on Dolphin? Look at the memory tab, look for Dolphin there. I'm also using Vulkan as I mentioned. From my end it looks like there's some kind of memory leak or resources aren't getting freed for some reason. The program may not crash depending on how much virtual memory you machine allots. I was running Xenoblade for hours before I got a message saying I ran out of virtual memory. Not expecting you to sit there and play a game for hours just want to see if the memory usage keeps growing. Sorry about the confusion. Thanks. Not your fault. My fault. Anyway, I found it. The physical memory is 8.00GB and Memory used is 5.69GB now. It is drop to 5.02GB in an hour. 04-01-2019, 05:28 AM

Dolphin is using 5gb? Okay. So I think it's fair to say you're seeing similar behavior. With revision 9832, Dolphin's memory usage holds steady for me around 700-800MB and doesn't grow larger than that.
Just so we're on the same page, I've attached a screenshot of the Activity Monitor app that comes with macOS while running the latest version. Notice that memory usage is already over 1GB (EDIT: this is after running the game for maybe 5-10 min. The memory usage keeps growing if I keep it running). 04-01-2019, 05:40 AM
So, I don't know if this is worthy of a bug report, as I'm not sure if it's that it's a bug in Dolphin and not problem on MoltenVK end. I did some experimentation and the newest revision seems to work without this memory hogging behavior if I switch out the latest libvulkan with and older version. See this thread for details. Any developers with more intimate knowledge of Dolphin and programming in general have any suggestions?
You are right. It is continue to climbing up. For more than 30 minutes of playing.

Now that I'm convinced I'm not crazy, I'm tempted to make a bug report but I'll wait for input from a developer since it seems like MoltenVK has a role in the memory leakage. 04-01-2019, 07:34 AM

Don't be. I never thought of it until you told me. Thanks for telling me about it. What about PC version ? |
