Great read! I didn't know about the monthly builds, are they listed somewhere?

Those are just development builds.

Open Dolphin, open Config, stay in the General tab and choose Beta (once per month) in the Automatic Update section.

Dolphin will then only once a month (usually with the new monthly report) update itself.

Dev will update with each new update and Stable only does so with the release of a new major stable version, which likely will be dubbed 6.0 (unless they are going for 5.5?). Don't expect a new Stable build for a loooooooong looooooong time. Not that it is necessary, you got the Beta (Monthly) and Dev (Daily) builds after all.

Thanks for the extra info, I know the are cherry picked Dev builds (the blog said so). I normally disable Auto Updates for all my programs, so I know what I do on my PC. I was asking if they are tagged or listed somewhere, or am I right to assume the one offered on the main page is a monthly build (currently last Dev)?

They are not listed anywhere. It's just internally tracked by the update system. JMC and May tag "beta" releases roughly lined up with progress reports.

As far as I'm aware they're literally just whichever dev build is the one that's current when either the month ends or when the progress report comes out (not sure which). I don't think there's any extra testing or anything for them, so there's no real reason to want to pick one over whichever devbuild is the most recent.

There is a bit more thought on monthly builds. If we know about a severe regression, we will actively wait before setting a beta until it's finished or pick a build before it (that has all the notable changes from teh article.)
