I've got my eyes set on this rig, maybe for a purchase in October time.
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/pc/range/irush.html

Do you think it would be a significant performance improvement for Dolphin from my current system? (In my sig.)

In a nutshell...

Core 2 Duo E8600 3.6ghz -> Intel Core i5 750 2.66Ghz (WILL be overclocked)
2 x 2GB DDR2 800Mhz -> 2 x 2GB DDR3 1333Mhz
ATI HD4850 -> ATI HD 5450
32bit Win7 -> 64bit Win7

Actually I might want to contact Novatech and ask to swap that i5 750, for an i7 920, I wouldn't mind paying an extra £20 for that.

Actually I was looking into it a bit more, and my current HD4850 costs more than an HD5450, why is that?

Would buying this new rig actually downgrade my GPU?

I think it might be a downgrade. You might try the gpu comparison at toms hardware.

yep! That's for sure.
The 48xx are the high-end cards of the older generation and the 54xx is the low-cost series of the newer generation. Wink ... You have to take at least the 5770 (mid-range) to achieve a better performance.
AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE @ 3716,3 MHz
Gigabyte GA-770TA-UD3 - 4096 MB DDR3-1333 Kingston
AMD ATi Radeon HD5770 1024 MB @960/2540 MHz

Yes, because your 4850 is pretty much stronger than anything up to 5670, because they are budget cards.

5770/50, 5870 and 5970 will of course eat it for lunch but that's besides the point (and they have much higher costs, 5970 costs more than an entire medium spec computer).. Not always does 'higher' mean better. Always compare performance online before buying any component.

Quote:(WILL be overclocked)

Be careful. You are buying a computer that doesn't list the mobo model on the site and is almost certainly a proprietary motherboard. What does this mean usually? The BIOS is gimped as hell and wont allow any tweaks, let alone overclocking.

Just thought to warn you because I know a lot of people who have been enraged by buying a ready-built rig with these factory made no-brand mobos that don't allow OC'ing of their i5/i7 processors (á la Acer m7721). It's a much better idea to build your own rig with a mobo of your selection, or seek a deal where you get a mobo which 100% surely supports overclocking.

Not that the i5 is bad at stock speeds but it would go to waste if you have zero opportunity to oc it at all (and can't change RAM timings & frequency etc)

You might want to aim a bit more for the 4gb range when using 64bit...
