So im thinking of switching to linux from windows. But i first want to know will dolphin work with open source drivers? Ive tried linux before, but the proprietary ati drivers are horrible and make my desktop very slow. Also do the open source drivers work on PS1 and PS2 emulators. I dont want to make 3 different threads on 3 different places. If dolphin/ps1/ps2 emulators work on os drivers then how well do they work? And please no assumptions, only respond if you have tried with ati card. (i have hd 5770) Also my processor is Phenom II x6 1055T if that matters.

Which distro are you going to use?

If it's a Ubuntu flavour, or if it uses Compiz, try to disable Sync to VBlank.

Last time (some years ago) I tried the opensource ati drivers on my 3850 there were some glitches. The driver likely has evolved since then, but I doubt it'll handle Dolphin without glitches. Plus, performance is likely to suffer greatly compared to Catalyst.

btw, if you want a KDE distro, kubuntu might be a bad choice... from what I heard it's one of the worst kde distributions available. But then again I never really tested it, openSUSE does work amazingly well anyway.

I was using Dolphin with the FOSS Radeon drivers on an HD6770 until very recently. I did not have issues with anything except anti-aliasing. Performance is obviously not as good as what the proprietary drivers provide, but I was still able to manage IRx2 on GC games like Baten Kaitos.

You'll be able to run it at IRx1 without any problems, probably IRx2 too.
