Dude, lol, this thread makes me laugh, I'm a coder generally, work and after universityBig Grin, ppc architecture is so much different than x64 used by AMD and Intel, U seems to have no idea. There is of course 64-bit ppc arch but it's not the same as x64. 3.2GHz tripple core cpu from ps3 may look powerful on the paper but it's not the same as for example Phenom II clocked on 3.2GHz. Phenom II got many different instructions to use for example to count graphics data, used only by AMD, some by Intel too, but none of theese instructions are in Cell Broadband Engine from PS3, this means it's much slower in many operations than pc cpus. And this 256 MB of ramDodgy are not enough to run any sensible Linux system, not mention to run any other programs in it.

256 RAM is enough to run a sensible linux.
Puppy Linux - minumum req. 64MB
Slitnaz - min. req. 16MB

No need for fancy Desktop Enviroments or Start Menus and GUI. The whole OS could act like an emulator. I read somewhere about something about, adding the ability to use 4 more cores! I have no idea what I am talking about though. except the sensible part.

edit:
I read this:

doesn't a PS3 running linux have no hardware acceleration?
if so, dolphin just wont run lol

Luckily for us, many developers like in this great project (Dolphin) don't laugh too often with crazy ideas like a modest PC running 3rd generation console emulatorsWink.

this is unlikely to happen. For a coder, you seem to be not very bright. Since ps3 is ppc too, there would be no need for a jit, unless some instructions are missing. Too bad no acceleration in ps3 linux though. The rsx is more than powerful enough to handle dolphin/wii gpu.

People doesn't seem to know (or understand) exatly the power of a ps3. We look to the games and stunning graphics and everything and that makes they think that ps3 is something that it isn't. The ps3 IS powerfull, and has a very good hardware (it's like a good - very good computer), but you can easly beat it with a very good - Kickass computer. Then you will ask me: Then why ps3 can run games with the ultimate graphics and physics we have actually?
Me: Because he was designed to do this exactly that way!
You: WTF???
Me: yes! he runs its games under nothing, while the PCs has to run everything under the operational system, so they're more powerfull to be able to do this: it has to run its system, AND any other thing the user want. When emulating the PC is runing the game under the emulator, wich is running under the operational system, and the ps3's games were designed to fit exactly its specifications, so it is as weak as possible, being JUST powerfull enough to run it's games, while the computers are aways tryng to be more powerfull, depending just on what the user can afford!
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64bit Creators Update
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 960 @ 3.6 GHz
Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 2GB GDDR5
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-870A-USB3 AM3+ Revision
RAM: HyperX 8GB Dual Channel @ 1600Mhz

ROFL @ moreno xD not even with 5000 PS3s!
PS: you just have no idea what could be calculated by distributed computing and what not. xD (bandwith... cores to be used... memory... USELESS!)
PPS: still rolling on the floor xD
