Dolphin not detecting my PS3 controller

My first post. Thanks to all devs, bug-reporters, alpha/beta testers, documentation writers, and all else who've worked to made Dolphin a reality. Not just because it's an emulator, but a dynamic emulator that allows graphical improvements over the original games. Visionary!

Anyhow, I've just installed Dolphin today. Only problem is that I don't have a Gamecube controller and the emulator won't allow me to make use of either my PS3 (model#CECHZC2U a.k.a. Dualshock 3) controller, USB Apple keyboard, Dynex mouse... anything. Latter info provided only for context, I don't want to play with my keyboard and mouse.

I say "make use of" because the controller does work on my system in other games (used with both OpenEmu's Genesis emulator and Soma). The battery, I believe, is dead as the LED lights no-longer light up, nor will the controller be detected via Macintosh's Bluetooth setup. I'm running it via a USB cable extender.

My system specs are: a 21.5" iMac circa late 2013. OSX 10.12.1 (Sierra). 2.7GHz Intel Core i5 CPU. Intel Iris pro 1536MB IGPU. Running Dolphin 5.0.

I've checked the official guide here, looked up several YouTube tutorials, and searched in several threads (e.g., 1, 2), as well as tried my luck at using the controller as an emulated Wiimote as recommended here, to no avail.

The controller is detected by Dolphin and listed as "Input/0/PLAYSTATION®3Contro..." (it trails off, can't read the full listing). But none of it works. It detects no button presses. When I click a given button to map it and press the button, nothing happen. No analog stick motion is detected, nothing. I've also tried rebooting my computer and the software several times, just incase.

Could this have something to do with my having upgraded to to OSX Sierra, released roughly a month ago? I'm at total loss here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dolphin can be sometimes derpy with the configuration, sometimes not selecting the controller. Try selecting the PS3 controller and pressing Refresh, or selecting it and pressing Default, then try to click on any of the inputs. It should highlight or show [waiting] (even if it doesn't do anything, try pressing a button or moving a stick on the controller)

The good news is that my keyboard finally works, and the game I'm trying to play (Eternal Darkness) is technically workable assuming I wanted to move around with the main stick and C-stick mapped to keyboard buttons, lol.

But the PS3 controller still doesn't work. I've tried every combination of refresh, default, and clear and in, I think, every possible order. I've also tried plugging my controller into my keyboard rather than directly into my computer-- that didn't work either.

One weird thing, if i hit "refresh" twice the device selector goes back to my keyboard.

One possible work-around would be to install a piece of software that could map keyboard buttons to my controller, but that would make the analog sticks function in digital mode, no different than using the keyboard. So, that's not a real solution.

In my version controller works! Try to install other versions, for example. I run at 3.5 version

3.5 isn't supported anymore, and we do not encourage users to run outdated versions of Dolphin. See our Global Forum Rules about recommending old builds:

Quote:Old Dolphin builds: Users are free to use any build that they like, but we do not recommend the use of builds older than the latest stable release. Older builds have missing features and issues with games that would be fixed by using the latest stable release or the current GIT builds from master branch. We ask that you please refrain from recommending old builds to forum users; only the latest stable build or newer is supported on the forums.
