One of the glaring holes in Dolphin's netplay is the lack of support for the Wii control peripherals. I'm probably one of the most knowledgable people when it comes to how netplay works, so believe me when I say this: Do not attempt to try Wiimote netplay until it is added to master. The odds of you successfully getting connected and playing a round without intricate knowledge of exactly what to do are zero. Even knowing what to do, and with the proper branch, it's still very difficult to setup. The controller mappings barely work (you have to setup the controllers in a very specific way to even boot,) the emulator likes to lock up within a second of boot even if you set it up "correctly." It was a total wreck to set up. The build we used was modded specifically for this, the sixth or seventh attempt over the course of a week.
Because there was a very minute chance of it working, I did have my video-recording software ready, and when by some miracle we actually got in game, I started recording the experience. We chatted and such during the round, and we compiled that (mostly him) into a redux and placed it in the closed captioning. I recommend turning it on because we were pretty excited about it working, and played like crap. Also, this is literally his first time playing the game, and I have never played it on dolphin. I was using a gamecube controller and had my motion controls put to c-stick. Oops. He had home mapped to R1, and motion mapped to L1, causing him to hit home a few times! It's a trainwreck, but a notable trainwreck, in that it finally functioned.
If anyone has any questions regarding its functionality, I'll be here and on the youtube page to answer questions. Otherwise, it's just a small step forward, and an exciting feature for the future. Special Thanks to RachelB for modding the netplay and making it possible to actually try. And of course all the other developers for being supportive of netplay and dealing with my sometimes insane lines of questioning.
