Hi,

I am currently trying to build a new PC with Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.

I have been wanting to get the Intel i9-9900K to use for Dolphin and other stuff that I do.

However this week AMD announced a new processor that outright beats the i9-9900K.

I am pretty sure that Dolphin only uses 2 cores of your processor right?

Will Dolphin work just fine with any top of the line AMD processors or potentially the new AMD processor?

Thanks,
Mike

Yes and yes.

Dolphin will perform just fine on any reasonably clocked Ryzen or newer CPU. Use the latest development build.

Thank you.

One more question:

Is there any preferred specs for Dolphin? Intel vs. AMD? Or does it not matter?

I'm curious about the following:

What processor is best for Dolphin?
What GPU is best for Dolphin?
How does RAM work with Dolphin?

Any reasonably clocked NON-ULV Haswell or newer for Intel, Ryzen or newer for AMD. Beyond that, pick a CPU to match your other requirements and budget.

See above.

Quote:What GPU is best for Dolphin?

Any modern GPU as fast as a reasonably modern (haswell) Intel iGPU will play Dolphin at 1x resolution without issues for the most part.

HD and higher resolutions require a GPU around as fast as a 750ti or faster. As long as it supports Direct3D 11.1 and/or OpenGL 4.4 you should be fine.

irrelevant unless you're using an AMD APU (integrated GPU, iGPU), then RAM speed helps the GPU go a bit faster, but even then, Dolphin isn't heavy enough to stress a modern APU much.

Beyond that, RAM helps you run cache texture packs. Not particularly important now that Dolphin supports DDS packs are decompressed on the GPU (?) anyways.

This information will help me figure out exactly what I need. And thank you for answering all the other questions so quickly too. Appreciate it.

You still need a bunch of RAM in order to prefetch texture packs, just not as ridiculously much as in the past.

Maybe also factor in a great Bluetooth adapter that supports Passthrough in case you want to start using real Wii motes Wink

(DO NOT GET THE ASUS BT-400) Wink
Check my profile for up to date specs.

It depends on the size of the texture pack that you want to prefetch.
