Having a decent graphics card (for non full hd resolutions anyway) a 9600gt 512MB i noticed a severe fps decrease at 1280 * 1024 resolution compared to lower ones (640*480, 800*600) without any antialiasing applied, with the latest revs. From my tests with two different revs (5457,5528) for mario galaxy 2, using a low res and then jumping to 1280*1024 i got these results:

rev 5457
res 800*600 => 78 fps
res 1280*1024 =>56fps

rev 5528
res 640*480 => 75 fps
res 1280*1024 =>40 fps!

35 fps less (almost half the speed) for a lower than full hd res and without any antialiasing applied for the latest rev. So my question is ... what kind of a card exactly do you need with the latest revs in order not to experience any fps drop going from a low to a high resolution (fullhd for example)? Post your graphic card and your tests below to find out.

Edit: Some additional tests with mario kart wii(rainbow road):

rev 5528
res 640*480 => 220 fps
res 1280*1024 =>50 fps!

Just 170 fps less or about 75 % decrease! No anti - aliasing applied either. For reference 5457 rev gives me about 100 fps!

Zelda twilight princess(gc):

rev 5528
res 640*480 =>75 fps
res 1280*1024 =>44 fps

Super mario galaxy 1 (observatory):

rev 5528
res 640*480 =>66 fps
res 1280*1024 =>40 fps

First time any emulator made my graphics card feel so weak XD. It can't even handle 1280*1024.
Anyway post your own results below to get a feel of what graphics card power people need for good performance in high resolutions.

I know what you mean >_< I'm planning on getting 2gb more ram. I'm just updating as the Revs come since I like to test out any new performance.

It might be a bug or something.
They are not focusing on performance at the moment.

Thanks for this thread. I thought today WTF, everybody is writing in the commits about "is faster now" and then I get after compiling the latest build big slowdowns at 1440x900 on my 8600 GTS in every game.

I really can't believe, that these little changes should be able to get down my graphics card this way (this I mean for MKWII. There I can't see any difference in graphics by using actual builds). I hope there will some optimizing come up for this problem.

Yeah Dolphin has became quite a bit slower over the past several revisions, not sure why people are claiming better speeds. Of course when you have delusional idiots that claim that a certain members build is faster/better than another members build, then it is no wonder.

I guess the decrease in speed can either be blamed on accuracy (which is a good thing) or sloppy unoptimized code (which is a bad thing), either way you will just have to bring these issues to the attention of the developers and hope the fix these issues and optimize their code a bit. I think that with all the issues hacks present, developers are focusing on accurate emulation, fast accurate emulation is sort of a contradiction. Hacks wouldn't be minded all that much if they didn't cause issues and games looked and performed as good as on the actual hardware, or if games looked as good with hacks as they do with accurate emulation.

According to rodolfoosvaldobogado
Quote:this rev is faster than my previus rev. about the requirement, yes the price of correct emulation is more graphic power, sorry to tell but is the only way to achive correct results

Maybe we can get a specific revision with a bunch of unnecessary code chopped out, just enough to run most of the popular games, like ssb, loz, nsmb, smg, and the like. I think someone suggested this in another thread.
