hey there i have a quite common question about dolphin and i didnt find anything using the search engine.

i just got a few new roms and added them into my folder and dolphin recognized it and they seem to be playable but the icons of these games will not be displayed but i want them to be shown in the list cause it looks kind of odd...there is just this ugly grey label next to the rom title.

has anyone of you had a similar problem and how did you solve this one?

The icons of Wii games can't be displayed until you create a save file. This is because icons are stored in a standard format in save files but not on discs.

I'm sure the icons are stored on disc in some way. It's just that nobody has bothered yet to investigate this and write code to extract them.

They are of course stored on the disc, but as far as I know, what way they're stored in is different from game to game. If we wanted to, we could write code that detects icons for some games, but it wouldn't work for all games unless people manage to manually track down the icons of every game ever released. It's too hacky, basically.

ok my problem is solved it recognized the icon itself after a few times of playing and saving...

i dont know what exactly it is but in some wii games like ssbb it is displayed immediately and in some others its there after first saving the game and there are also some more stubborn cases where it appears later after several saves..

Dolphin will be able to load the icon once there is a save file. SSBB creates a save file automatically when you launch the game. Note that Dolphin won't try to load the icons again until you restart Dolphin or press the Refresh button.
