dolphin for the ubuntu software center

I don't think Dolphin will be available in the Ubuntu Software Center any time soon for the reasons others have already stated, namely Ubuntu's restrictions. That doesn't stop any one from making their own .deb or .rpm archives, and sometimes that's even easier. All you have to do is download and double-click the file, just like a Windows executable, and the package manager goes to work.

Well you know, anything could be the future, since we don't know it. Anything can happen when you say "probably". Still it's quite an assumption. Wink

Many Linux techies look to DistroWatch.com to see what's popular among distros at the moment. Currently, Linux Mint is picking up a lot of new users, presumably from ex-Ubuntu users.

lol, if you ever had to pragmatically use Bash and the old Command Prompt in Windows systems, Bash is worlds away. The new Command Prompt in Windows 7 is great thanks to a lot of improvements, but anything before that does me no good as I compile my own cross-platform games. Though being a "computerfreak" has its perks; there are very problems they can't handle. :p

More on topic, there are ways you can help fellow Linux users. The steps to install Dolphin, since they're all commands from the terminal, can easily be put into a shell script. All someone would have to do is run the script, and then everything would be set up.

Well, if you say "Linux Mint = Ubuntu", then you should say "Ubuntu = Debian", too. ;P

Also, forget DistroWatch. That's *few thousand* votes from the millions of linux users. It shows users of which distribution have been upvoting their distribution recently, not how many users a certain distribution has.

Technically, no one "votes" on DistroWatch; there aren't any polls, and unless you really want to use proxy servers, it's frankly a waste of time to try to influence the site. It just records IP addresses and sees what distros people are looking at on their site. I know it doesn't measure users; it measures trends and popularity. In that sense, it's similar to Google Trends. Recently Mint seems to have stolen Ubuntu's spotlight, just like Ubuntu once did with the likes of Mandriva and Fedora. It might not have as many users, but more people are looking at it.
