Dolphin detects GameCube controller but won't accept inputs

I've followed all the instructions for getting the GameCube controller to work on dolphin but I get no inputs on Melee. I've enabled it in controller settings, accepted access to USB on game startup, but Melee still won't detect any input.

It works flawlessly on PC, but not on my OnePlus 5.

Are there any specific build versions I should be using to get GameCube controller support, or an I doing something wrong? I'm using the official GameCube adaptor through USB-c and build 4700-5.0. I'm suspecting the problem lies in my USB-c adapter so I ordered another one.

Edit: tried the adapter on my PC, works fine.

Yep. Saving the files wasn't the problem either. Is there anything I can do to get the GC controller to work? Or is it a bug in Android which I'll have to wait for a future build to fix?
