Dolphin Crashing Upon Game Startup

I recently downloaded dolphin on windows and have experienced dolphin freezing about 3 seconds after I start either Super Smash Bros. Melee v1.02 or the 20xx Hack Pack 4.05. Has anyone else experienced anything similar and/or have a solution? I run windows 8 and have the most recent dolphin version with the official Nintendo Gamecube adapter

Just to make sure, do you mean 4.0-9444 by the latest version?

Yes, I don't believe the version is the issue though as I am having issues with it freezing on both the most recent, and 4.0-7840 (for netplay)
