Question
I've been having some trouble installing Dolphin on my computer. I have a Mac OS 10.5.8 computer with a dual core intel processor (but it's one of the oldest models. I mean, it has screws in it!).

The problem: Dolphin spends about 13 seconds trying to boot up, then it crashes and I just get this:

So, is there a step I'm missing? I have XCode and MacPorts installed (not sure if those make a difference, they're from other things I compiled).

A solution I tried was using wine to use the windows version, but when I tried to expand the windows version I got this error:

It still made a folder with some files and an .exe inside but when I tried to use winebottler to open it up it never opened.

So, I would greatly appreciate any help anyone can offer, whether it's an alternate solution or just a step I missed! Thank you in advance.

Well, for starters, your OS is unsupported. See the FAQ here.

Also, for running Dolphin via WINE, it doesn't look like you're downloading from the new website (we're now http://www.dolphin-emu.org). If you want to try Dolphin in WINE, you should at least download the versions from the official buildbot rather than the old site (whose buildbot has had troubles for a while now anyway).

If you can't or don't want to upgrade OS X, then you can always use Boot Camp to load up a version of Windows or even Linux. Either one would probably give you more mileage than running it via WINE, if not for performance than for the sake of not having putting up with issues like the ones you're getting.

Well, that does certainly explain a lot. I had no idea that there was a newer homepage, and the old homepage said it was compatible with all intel macs.

I will try using wine on the version from the new website. I probably won't be able to upgrade my OS because it would slow down this computer a lot, considering it's an old model. If not, I guess I'll just have to play on my friend's computer.

Thanks for the response!

The (windows) download from the new site at least isn't "corrupted", but wine still doesn't open it. Is there an older version of Dolphin that works on 10.5?

FYI, Snow Leopard was mainly an OS X release that existed solely to speed things up and slim things down - usually things end up being faster on it than on Leopard. Plus, it has newer graphics drivers, so those'll inevitably be faster. (Lion didn't slow things down much, either, and has even more improvements to graphics drivers, so feel free to upgrade straight to that.)

But I'm gonna have to temper that with a disappointing note: there's probably not a single game your Mac's gonna be able to run at full speed. I have an iMac with the same GPU and a slightly-slower CPU, and games run pretty damn slow. (It runs Lion perfectly fine, though.)
