It might be worth a try, but I don't know if it would run any faster or be any simpler in a virtual machine than it would with wine. I just tried it that way and was able to play super mario sunshine at a max of 5 fps. I couldn't try any wii games because wine couldn't find the wiimote plugin. It may be slow because I didn't update directx properly, or missed some other step in the configuration, but I'm not too happy with the results so far. It probably can be done, but I think it would be simpler to try dolphin directly on xp than it would be to get wine configured for it. This guy is running dolphin on wine on a mac.

I might try it with xp on a different drive, but I'm hoping that the Linux version will work with my new video card. Let me know how the virtual machine works if you try it. If you decide to try it with wine, I found these instructions for installing directx.

There are other things you have to do to configure wine too, but I can't remember them all.

Well, I've finally had a somewhat successful experience with dolphin. It was on an Athlon XP x2 3600 with an integrated Nvidia Geforce 6150 running Ubuntu 10.04 32 bit. I can play Mario bros wii at about 50% speed. It's not that enjoyable in slo-mo, but at least it's working in Ubuntu. I don't know how I missed this the first few times I read through the forums, but according to this page, our intel graphics won't work well with Dolphin under windows or Linux. It doesn't like them!

They don't support opengl. I would attribute the fact that I got dolphin to barely run in wine to the directx drivers. I'm now fairly confident that my core2duo will run Mario bros wii, the only game I really want to play, at a decent speed in Ubuntu once I get a new video card. In your case, that laptop may not be able to work at all, since you can't change the video card. I would try a 64 bit version of windows on it though to be sure. According to this, it might work, and your intel chipset is newer than mine.

Good luck.
