I'm only talking to one person and responding to one post.....

Normally I respond fast enough where my post is directly below the person I'm responding too or at least on the same page which makes it obvious who I'm talking too but this time admin managed to have a side conversation with him before I could respond......and filled an entire page in doing so.

If I just add the names is that good enough or do I have to do a quote post? Because the new forum setup has made that very difficult to deal with.

Well, you don't have to do anything, but it'd be nice if the name was there at least.

So uh... are you going to do anything at all about that benchmark showing the FX-8350 being faster than a Sandy i3? I mean, you stated that you don't want to separate CPUs based on model numbers, but with AMD's current branding system, that's going to be difficult to maintain in for the future...

This "CPU hierarchy" is on a very basic level , NV didn't even separate each Intel Core i series generation . I have complained this 2 twice already but he just ignore us ? Hell even the Dolphin Faq is much better than this

The i3 first gen (i3 5xx) and Pentium Clarkdale (G6xxx) and Pentium Sandy Bridge (G6xx , G8xx)
should be on top of Category 3: Fast
Note : CPU that can be overclocked will rank higher than those locked CPU

Category 2: Very Fast
_i7 1st gen Extreme Edition (i7 980x , i7 990x)
_i7 1st gen (i7 8xx , i7 9xx)
_AMD Pile Driver FX - 8xxx (high-end)
_i5 1st gen quad (i5 7xx)
_i3 3rd gen (i3 3xxx)
_AMD Pile Driver FX - 6xxx and 4xxx (low-mid range)
_Pentium Ivy Bridge (G2xxx)
_i3 2nd gen (i3 2xxx)
_i5 1st gen dual (i5 6xx)

Category 1: Extremely Fast
_i7 2rd gen Extreme Edition (i7 3970X , i7 3960X)
_i7 3rd gen (i7 3xxx)
_i5 3rd gen (i5 3xxx)
_i7 2nd gen (i7 2xxx and i7 3820 and i7 3930K)
_i5 2nd gen (i5 2xxx)

The bolded is questionable seeing how non-dolphin benchmarks show the FX-6300 closer in performance to the FX-8350 than to the FX-4300 on lightly-threaded workloads. Now if only we could get an actual dolphin benchmark result on the 6300 and 4300...

You can tell the following benches were lightly-threaded since the Ivy i3 ranked higher than the FX-8350.

I think so too, mostly because I wrote it (the system requirements part) and it's easy to look at without being too confusing. Tongue

Why is it going to be difficult to maintain? Especially relative to the other brands.

I've explained this over and over and over again. This will not become a "ranked list of every cpu models performance in dolphin". Not only is it impossible to guarantee even a reasonable degree of accuracy with such a list due to lack of data but it confuses users making it useless to the majority of them. Yet people keep asking me.

I will admit though that now that we are about to have 4 generations of core i3/i5/i7 cpus with no end to the branding system in sight I might revise this decision in the future if it gets out of hand, at least for that brand. I would much prefer to write a more detailed list and link to that for users that need a more detailed list.

You guys are crazy. It's easy to look at but it tells you almost nothing. If I were a newbie looking at it with my old Q6600 I would absolutely no clue how good it was for dolphin. It always bothered me how ridiculously incomplete and unspecific it was. But I try not to think about it since I know that you guys like it for some bizarre reason and will likely never change it.

What really irks me is how people can come in here and complain that my list isn't specific enough while praising the simplicity of the faq. It's nuts!

For me, both are fine, NV´s and the faq one, because when you really want to point everything out iwith every CPU possible, then you have a huge list and still, people would be confused.

Its just not possible, to cover every CPU, but going too simple isnt good too, saying an i3 is extremly fast and you get an old gen 1 one, it isnt that perfect anymore.
The generations come with numbers like i5 2XXX, 3XXX, so i think, you should add these atleast.
Its not like its going to change anything, like noone would start a thread asking how good theyr system is or what they have to buy, to run dolphin fine.

i can imagine, that Intel and AMD keep the names core i3/5/7 and FX a while and that is going to get messy, when the 4. or 5. generations are out.

But for a quick look, its fine, both of them.
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit

GPU: AMD Radeon HD7850 @850MHz
RAM: 8GB DDR3 Kingston @1866MHz

I can imagine that Intel and AMD will keep the brand names core i3/5/7 and FX for a while. And that is going to get messy when the 4th or 5th generations are out.

But for a quick look they're fine, both of them.

1: Run on sentence. Poorly structured and commas everywhere. But I didn't bother correcting it because I'm ok with run on sentences. They look bad but at least they're readable. There are a few others that I didn't bother correcting either for the same reason.
2: Not even going to try to fix this one.

You also forget your apostrophes a lot. And you use commas far too often. Granted so do I but not anywhere near this much.

As for the content of your post I suppose I could add just the series number rather than the whole model number without over complicating it too much. I'm still debating it.
