But there are at least 11 models of Athlon II x2 CPUs with 1MB of L2. Doesn't that amount automatically overrule the others?

EDIT: Here's a preliminary list of my GameCube and Wii games. I say preliminary because this is just what I can remember off the top of my head (I cannot physically check my collection currently, it's 1AM here so people are sleeping) and because I didn't know if I was supposed to include virtual console games (I did not). Note that, unless otherwise noted, all games are NTSC-USA.

That's quite a collection you have there. Even bigger than mine.

Quote: But there are at least 11 models of Athlon II x2 CPUs with 1MB of L2. Doesn't that amount automatically overrule the others?

If you look at my original list from the cpu microarchitecture thread you can see that I was originally going to include every cache size available for every family of cpus. When I did this the list became way too long, complicated, and difficult to accurately organize. With that much variation available I could not longer guarantee the accuracy of my list within reasonable limits. So eventually I decided against it when I was making this thread. This thread assumes an average for each family. The average L2 cache size for athlon II is 512KB per core due to the X3 and X4 models all having that cache size. So that's what the data in the list is based off of, the average. If I were to differentiate athlon IIs based on cache size I would then have to do that for all cpus on the list, and that would get out of hand really fast as you can see from my cpu microarchitecture thread. Core 2 Quads have 2MB, 3MB, 4MB, 6MB, 8MB, and 12MB flavors. That's just one family. You see how this becomes problematic?

If you look very closely at the lists at the beginning of this thread you'll see that for the most part I listed them in order of performance from top to bottom within each tier. But I separated the Intel and AMD cpus in each tier, putting AMD cpus on the bottom and Intel cpus on the top to make it easier for users to quickly find their cpu on the list (the list is a lot messier when you mix Intel and AMD cpus together like that).

Thank you for the criticism. I was waiting for someone to criticize my list but I think a significant number of active users on this forum are genuinely scared to criticize anything I write just because they know I will try to defend it with a WoT (which is reasonable as far as I'm concerned).

We're in the same timezone so I'm going to be signing off shortly as well.
While I'm here I also want to point out that the only way to get perfect accuracy is to have every specific model listed. And we don't have anywhere near enough benchmarking data available to do that.

Ah, I understand your L2 cache reasoning.

Perhaps the lack of my fear of criticism was partially because I'm not a very active member of this forum, so I don't know your "status". Tongue The other half is that I never actually felt it was criticism of something that is yours but rather felt it was more of a debate and discussion over what seemed to be a general resource for anyone that needed the info (similar to something on a publicly-editable wiki).

But yes, I'm going to have to sign off soon myself. I'm hoping to do some of those Dolphin CPU tests tomorrow, so it'd be great if you maybe give me an exact CPU speed and Dolphin configuration you'd like me to try out - I'm not really THAT familiar with Dolphin since I don't actually use it all that much. (I mean, I know how to use the program and where things are located but I don't know what many of the settings, specifically those in the "Hacks", really mean and what they do)

Starscream has started an official benchmark thread for The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker.
You're welcome to join and provide your results in that thread.

Cool, I'll head over there and do that bench in a moment. This will also be useful as a frame of reference between my onboard 4200 and discrete 8800GS.

However, I can't help but feel it would have been better to use a Wii Homebrew app - that way anybody could do the benchmark. Even better if someone could make an actual homebrew benchmark application...

Also, I did miss a few games from my "off the top of my head" list; I've edited them into the list above as well:

GameCube
  • *Game Boy Player boot-up disc
    *Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour
    *Legend of Zelda: Four Sword Adventures
    *Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Master Quest
    *Pokemon Colosseum

Wii
  • *FlingSmash
    *Super Mario All-Stars

==== UPDATE ====
I've posted my benchmark results:
http://forums.dolphin-emu.org/showthread.php?tid=25339&pid=241013#pid241013

Hardware configuration used:
CPU: Athlon 64 x2 4800+ OC'd @ 3.1GHz (65nm Brisbane, 512KB L2 cache)
GPU: eVGA Geforce 8800 GS @ stock
OS: Windows 7 64bit SP1 lite (AKA several background services have been disabled and/or removed via vLite)

Summery of the performance:
Save slot 1: 78% - 100%
Save slot 2: 66% - 80%
Save slot 3: 101% - 123%

Any more questions about the list?

Uhh... so does that mean the benchmark results I got are still considered too slow?

Um... no offense admin, but I think you're a bit out of the loop on what's going on in here...

I still having Pentium D 925 @ 3.0GHz & Pentium DC E5300 though i don't have a graphic card to test (Asus 9800GT was dead)
I dare say Pentium D can run "light" games full speed but ofcource i get slowdown alot
Athlon 64 , Athlon X2 , Pentium Dual Core are considered as slow . Don't know what you're trying to accomplish here
Despite the lack of details . Still , i think i'm fine with NaturalViolence's list . Except :
Category 1: Extremely Fast
-Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition
-Intel Core i7
-Intel Core i5

i5 2500k 2nd gen vs i7 1st gen 950 -> i5 win
i3 3225 3rd gen vs i5 660 1st gen -> i3 win
the new site also have some basic info for newbie . I don't think we should need more detail than that

Edit : But all of this is just my opinion , um sorry , nevermind me then (I have a bad habit that love to jump into people's conversation) . Now i got a felling that i'm being rude now
