Once the feature freeze starts, new features will not be accepted into the development builds until after 5.0 is released. When 5.0 is released, it will be exactly like the most recent development build released before it.

Ah, so you abandoned the old branching way and are now basing it off the latest development build? Sounds easier to manage. But just to know, what will happen after 5.0 is released? Will there be a feature freeze every time before a release?

Well, based on how things were done in past...

It was explained in October's progress report (01-06-2016, 07:05 AM)leolam Wrote: Sounds easier to manage. Think about 5.0-1, 5.0-2, 5.0-3, and so, until they do another feature freeze to release 6.0 (for reference, 5.0-0 in master is the same as 5.0 stable and the same applies to 4.0 too) (01-06-2016, 07:05 AM)leolam Wrote: Will there be a feature freeze every time before a release?Probably. That's how they did with 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, etc. Now with 5.0 they tried the separate branch approach but it didn't work well so the devs wen back to the classic feature freeze approach... (again, take that info as speculation, they may do different now)

I see. Looking forward to see the version counter up I just hope that the release cycle will be a bit shorter in the future, given the number of users who use a 2 years old version…

Wow! It has been over 2 years since 4.0. Guess I didn't notice too much because I usually use the latest dev build at the end of each month. I wonder if JMC47 and MaJoR will do a release blog summarizing the big and key differences and/or changes between 4.0.2 and 5.0 when it's released. The progress has been tremendous.

Yes, would be cool to get a retrospective of the where the whole project is at if anyone had the time or wanted to put forth the writing necessary. |
