A little update.

I have now tried connecting the PC directly to the wall ethernet port, instead of through the router. I have also tried dolphin in Ubuntu (14.04), which is also installed on my desktop. Neither have yielded any new results. My conclusion is that it has to be hardware related, but as it didn't work through my mobile connection either, I don't think it's the actual network device.

I am completely out of ideas myself now. If anyone has anything that I could do to in any way get closer to the source of the problem, please don't hestitate. Smile

Indeed. Repeated for the 100th time, I don't know anything about networking, but I find it very strange as well.

I just want to give an update; I finally made it work on my desktop.

It turns out that it WAS a firewall issue. I guess I'm a complete fool, and as I've mentioned before I don't understand networking at all. Even though I had disabled the firewall, and even tried in Ubuntu where the firewall was not even installed or running on that partition, it must have had some effect while it was "dormant". I had had some other issues with it so I uninstalled it, and now with the regular windows firewall, I am able to connect.

For future reference if anyone runs into this issue and sees this, it was Comodo Firewall and Antivirus, and disabling DID NOT WORK. I had to uninstall completely.

Thanks again to everyone who attempted to help me, I guess you were right about the firewall all along. Smile If anyone can explain to me what the firewall can have done to prevent me playing even while it was disabled (and in ubuntu), I'd love to hear it!
