Dokapon Kingdom and Controller Connection (Netplay)

My friend and I have spent the last 2 hours trying to make Netplay work for this game. On single player, there are no problems and everything works great. However, on Netplay, I receive a "Lost connection with Wii Remote 1."
Whenever I try to assign controller ports, it asks me what Game Cube (GC) controller I want to assign, but this game doesn't work with GC controllers. How do I assign a Wii controller on Netplay?

Do I need a physical controller for Netplay, or can I use my keyboard?

Update to a development version of Dolphin. It's impossible to use Wii Remotes on netplay in 5.0.

Real Wii Remotes don't work on netplay regardless of which version of Dolphin you're using. Use your keyboard if you want to, or use a gamepad if you want to.

Updating to a development version gave me the option to assign a Wii remote and fixed the problem for me, thank you.
