Does the PS3 HDD have your downloaded games on it?

I'm just wondering because I might have to get a new PS3, but I want to take my HDD out of my old one and put it into the new one. I don't really want to DL all my games over, plus I have games that friends gave me. Also, do PS3 slims use the same HDD type as all other PS3s?

I assume they're encrypted uniqely for your console, or else piracy would be easy.
