Hi,

I wonder if AMD videocard (such as the latest GCN archtecture series) work fine with opengl backend?
Because I wanna build a new system.

And is opengl backend really more accurate than dx backend in dolphin?

Thank you in advance.

Both backends have their strengths and weaknesses. D3D has geometry shaders that allow it to do line-width accurately, OpenGL has better XFB support. Each backend has its own set of unique glitches as well as shared.

I don't know what you mean about GCN architecture series, but AMD and NVIDIA cards both work with OpenGL fine.

Thanks, JMC47. I mean GCN(generation core next) is AMD latest R series videocard.
Hah. That's cool.

anyway, opengl is more accurate and dx is faster, right?

No; both backends have ups and downs. EFB2Ram heavy games will be faster in D3D, OpenGL is better at vertex streaming, etc.

Basically it depends on the game. The GCN cards work just like any other GPU for Dolphin.

However, what you should be more worried about is your CPU. Amd CPUs have low single core speeds, which is bad when it comes to Dolphin, so we recommend not getting them and going the way of Intel Haswell.

Although I don't understand EFB2Ram & vertex streaming, Thank you anyway, JMC47.
everything is like double edged sword.Hah...

Get it. I like intel cpu. I may get E3 1230 V3.

What GPU are you going to get anyway?

Just know that with the 1230 V3 can't be overclocked, so it may not be able to play the most demanding games like The Last Story and maybe the Metroid games (I should try and find out how demanding they are now with all of the new speed improvements)

The Last Story and Metroid Prime may be CPU intensive games, right?
I only play resident evil 4 & resident evil (GC) and skyward sword (wii) with the help of dolphin emulator.
I find they works very well.
anyway, your suggestion is helpful. thanks.
