Does a Gamecube Controller Adapter work with Dolphin?

I've been using Dolphin for a while and think it's great, but there is one small quirk for me.

I would like to stop using my Xbox 360 controller and use my Gamecube controller to play my games, because I prefer the Gamecube controller to the Xbox Controller. What I am wondering is if I buy one of those Gamecube Controller Adapter to PC will it be compatible with Dolphin, or will I have to buy one of those USB Gamecube controllers and spend extra money?

Any response on the matter would be great!

Yeah mayflash has finally made improvements but make sure you get the right one. Follow my sig for the most accurate adapter but it does cost more then maysflash.
