Do you need a controller to play GC on the emulator?

You don't need a controller. You can map the input to your keyboard and/or mouse. When you click on the "GCPad" button, look at the top left corner for a "Device" drop-down option, then you can select your input device.
For saving, Dolphin can emulate the GC memory card, so you can save in-game just like you would a real GC. You can also use save states, which save anywhere. You can save using Shift+F1, F2, etc, for different save state slots. Pressing F1, F2, etc loads the save states. If Shift and the F* keys aren't working for you, I think you can configure those as Hot Keys. Note that save states can be unreliable at times, so you might want to make sure you save via the emulated memory card every now and then. |
