Being able to dump textures of GC/Wii games is great because they can then be polished to HD standards and run in Dolphin. But do other emulators offer this feature, including re-introducing the new textures to be used in-game? I've been looking into doing some HD projects for ePSXe/PCSX2. A quick google tells me it's not possible for PCSX2 in particular but the thread in question is from 5 years ago. So, is there a solution for recreating textures for PSOne and PS2 games in 2016? How about other emulators, like for Dreamcast?
Do other emulators support texture dumping?

How about other emulators, like for Dreamcast? Both Project64 and Mupen64 (N64 emulators) support texture dumping. You just have to use the GLideN64 graphics plugin. It uses a hotkey (ex. the letter "D" on the keyboard) to dump textures. Hope this helps. 05-14-2016, 03:47 AM

Yeah that's pretty much all. I wonder why texture dumping don't get love on non-Nintendo 3D emulators...
From France with love.

It could just be how different devs look at the feature. Desmume didn't even have native resolution scaling for a long time because no one was interested in doing it. With how some devs view modification of the original game, it's possible no one on the team wants to handle it. Though, If I had to guess, it's probably more technical than that or maybe a mixture of both. 05-14-2016, 03:57 AM

A specific version of gpuBladeSoft can dump/replace textures, but that version doesn't have higher resolution rendering.
GBE+, HDNes, and HiSMS can dump and replace tiles for GameBoy/Color/Advance, NES, and Master System. Quote:GBE+, HDNes, and HiSMS can dump and replace tiles for GameBoy/Color/Advance, NES, and Master System. Well, GB Enhanced+ can't do tile replacements GBA games just yet. It's a matter of performance at this time, rather than anything technical about LCD emulation. There's just a lot of graphics to hash, and the current per-pixel renderer is just too slow in general. I'll have to rewrite a lot of things for speed. Eventually GBE+ will do tile replacements for the GBA, especially once the GBA core becomes more mature (a lot of GBA stuff is still incomplete really). I mean, even a 2x version of Metroid Fusion would be incredible, so it's definitely something I'm excited about and working towards. But for GB/GBC games, currently GBE+ works great. I recently just fixed some performance issues and a small rendering issue with sprites when using replacements. I'm probably going to push RC3 soonish (tomorrow/Sunday?). The full 1.0 release looks set for some time in June. Unfortunately, it seems like I'm the only one working on tile replacement for 2D systems right now. HiSMS hasn't been active since like 2009, which was ages ago in Internet Years. HDNES has been silent for about a year on GitHub, and the thread on NESDev has been quiet for months. I know I keep saying this, but I'm finally publishing all of the techniques I've used to achieve tile replacement on the GB/GBC. I call it a "working theory" because I believe the methods I used can be abstracted to just about any other 2D tile-based console. It's still a "theory" because I don't think tile replacement is a solved problem just yet. There are dozens of cases and scenarios that need to be covered still. Ah look at me, talking and rambling like I have something important to say |
