Do GC controllers make the emulator run better?

First time I was trying out double dash without using GC controllers, I was only getting 40 FPS (with 3 players), and it ran really choppily. I tried it again after my adapter came in and it ran smoother than ever. Does the adapter affect gameplay?

Did you have less players when using the GC controllers?

No.
Tried it both times with 3 players.

It's less that the GC controller makes the emulator run better but more that the non-GC controllers make the emulator run slower, depending on the drivers.
