Are you on #dolphin-dev? How do you know it hasn't been discussed?

I thought there was gonna be a announcement or something before removing it, but it isn't worth it anyways I guess.

It doesn't need to be discussed because there's no valid reason to keep it.

open cl has been removed?.....well i hope the new dolphin runs better without it, i think im the only one who actually benefited from having it on.

ive made posts on this before for some reason i get weird texture problems with it off and none with it on.

but that also could be just an issue with the dolphin version i am using 4.0-267

either way im no dev so i have no idea how usefull it really was other than text fixes for me. Even after reading the reason why it was removed im a little bit confused >.<. does the new dolphin force the gpu to work harder? thats the gist of what i got from reading it. i hope so that would be awesome.

but still RIP openCL =_(

this is post i made in regards to opencl

open cl off (notice the white shadows on leaves and flat looking plants)

open cl on (textures look much better)

ib3killen: The texture appearance issue you're having is probably a legitimate texture decoding bug, if anyone else can reproduce it. I'd try the tev_fixes_new branch to see if it's fixed there: https://dolphin-emu.org/download/list/tev_fixes_new/1/

If not, file an issue on the issue tracker: https://code.google.com/p/dolphin-emu/issues/list
Make sure to include a FIFO log (.dff) with it: https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=FifoPlayer
Make one with OpenCL and another without (unless the .dff made under OpenCL no longer looks fine if you run it without OpenCL enabled, or vice versa); keep it at or under ten frames (a two-frame log is perfectly fine) and .zip it before uploading.

As for the performance issue, you just need to put Dolphin under a high-performance profile in the Nvidia drivers. It should actually run faster than with OpenCL that way, though it'll still have the white edges on those textures.

I hope you know OpenCL is the only way I can run New Mario Bro Wii on both D3D and OGL. For some reason, with OpenCL disabled, the game runs in slow motion even after adjusting to prefer maximum performance in my power setting in my nvidia control panel. Can someone help me? Messing with the power settings in the nvidia control panel seems to have no affect on Dolphin.

If your GPU's powerful, and your AA, AF and IR are low, it can still assume i's able to manage dolphin at idle clocks when specifically told it can't. Try more IR.

Yes because removing an option that nobody uses would have the same effect on the community as completely removing the most popular backend or breaking popular features.

Neobrains changes don't generate controversy because it's neobrain. They generate controversy because he touches the things that people love. If neobrain had made this change nobody would have cared.

I have zero issues with removing openCL or "trimming the fat" in general.

I've noticed this happening more and more frequently lately.

delroth Wrote:Are you on #dolphin-dev? How do you know it hasn't been discussed?

Discussed with the community is what I'm sure he means. Devs don't always realize all the advantages/disadvantages certion options have to people with different preferences or hardware. Or catch all the bugs. Particularly the ones people don't report until it's too late.

Even if everyone was on those private IRC channels all the time reading through IRC logs is a pain as I'm sure you know.

@drhycodan

Verify your GPU clock rates when running dolphin for us.

Nevermind, the slow motion seems to only happen with OpenMP enabled. But nonetheless, the Ray Surfing stage in Mario Galaxy runs full speed only with OpenCL on, with OpenCL off and with my power setting set to maximum preffered, it's still not as fast as with the OpenCL decoder. Maybe OpenCL does have its benefit, but only with the Kepler line of nvidia cards.

Just for the record, #dolphin-dev is not private...
