Yeah BSNES have surprised me a couple of times now but I think it's a great idea.
The NES, SNES, GB, GBC, GBA are popular systems and it's cool to have all these systems in one Emulator instead of a bunch.

I'm looking forward to the day when I can switch to it permanently but it still needs a little bit more improvement to make it kick ass.

Like LordVador, I had no idea BSNES did other Nintendo systems. I glanced over an article on Ars Technica a while back, talking about how an SNES emulator could be so demanding.

I kinda have mixed feelings about multi-emulators. I kinda like having a separate emulator for different systems. But my preferences aren't so clear cut, I guess. I like having my GB/GBC/GBA/SGB together with VBA-M, and the same with Genesis, Sega CD, and 32X with Gens. But I kinda like having things like NES, SNES, and others on different emulators .I guess I also just like having lots of programs on my computer. Makes me feel proud when I open the "Emulation" section of my Applications menu and I see a list of icons, it's like a visual cue of what my computer's capable of emulating. I've been using the same emulators since I got into emulation, (SNES9x, Gens, FCEUX) and I'm comfortable with them, so it's hard to switch. You could say I know the ins and outs of each. Big Grin

That doesn't mean I don't appreciate multi-emulators. One of my favorites is Mednafen. On Linux, it's pretty much the only native emulator that's actually viable for Virtual Boy and Wonderswan games. I'm really glad programmers are dedicating their time to preserving games on those systems.

So do I. It's like having each your consoles on your computer. When I wanna play a game I usually say to myself : "Gonna play XXX on my Nes" for example. Funny thing Wink

You got valid points there and I haven't thought about it that way.
But NES, SNES, GB, GBC and GBA are Nintendo consoles so it's pretty convinient launching one emu, I see it as one great Nintendo emulator.

However there is emulators like MESS that emulates a vide varity of different consoles from different companies like Nintendo, Sega etc. and that is a bit huge for my taste.

Well guys I have some bad news and some good news so I guess I start with the bad.

The bad news is that I just tried the latest 3.0-631 dirty version of Dolphin and Super Mario Galaxy 1
The FPS ranged around 47-50 FPS most of the time, sometimes even lower and I'm absolutely shocked and dazzled.
I'm using pretty much the same settings as from 3.0

In the official 3.0 version which this thread is based on you already know the kind of speeds I get.
This might just be a temporary thing and I still have good hopes for the future official release but right now 3.0 will be my companion a little bit longer.

As for the good news I'm happy to say that the Ivy Bridge works beautifully with BSNES, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island is actually 100% fullspeed now something I couldn't say with the Sandy Bridge where the game lagged quite a lot.
Seems like the rest of the systems works nice too, tried a couple of NES, GBA games and WOW.

On the subject of other emulators, what would you recommend I used for emulating GBA games (specifically pokemon emerald). I have the gamepak and a DS, but the flash memory the save game is saved to wipes itself after the thing is turned off for 10 minutes, so I want do back up the intact ROM part and run it on a PC. Basically: What is the best free GBA emulator? And: How to dump a Gamepak ROM.
OS: Windows 10 64 bit Professional
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5900X
RAM: 16GB
GPU: Radeon Vega 56

Hey folks,

pls stay on topic. This is not the Delfino Plaza. If you want to discuss about other emulators, don't write here but rather in the offtopic area. Thanks. (Or else i shall be forced to report this very informative thread Wink)

Well, that seems pretty much in line with the idea that Dolphin tends to get more demanding as it emulates things more accurately than before. For SMG, apparently a more accurate Dolphin is more than even your stock Ivy Bridge can handle. I guess even the improved micro-architecture isn't enough without overclocking. But if 3.0 has been treating you alright, might as well stick with it, at least until 4.0 comes out Wink

The way you've been at it lately I don't doubt you at all, but seeing as it was I that began the offtopic talk with BSNES from the start you have to report me too.
